You can credit John Houlding, our President and Founder, for the name of the company. After having rowed in the Summer Games at Los Angeles (’84) and Seoul, Korea (’88), John set out to attend his third Olympics in Barcelona (’92), only to have an untimely training injury foil his bid. Staying with the sport he loved, John started a business designing t-shirts for rowers, which he then sold at regattas. The t-shirts of ‘cotton’ and the artwork that adorned them (the ‘candy’) gave John the idea for his new company name. He soon began to wonder if corporations might also have an interest in branded t-shirts. It was only a matter of time before John would add golf shirts, pens, mugs and other promotional items to the mix. The rest, as they say, is history. Thirty years later, we’re immensely proud of our memorable name and the bright, fun, colorful and creative corporate culture that it has come to represent.
